MATERNITY SESSION GUIDE

ABOUT MATERNITY SESSION

Each pregnancy is as unique and beautiful as each expecting mama. I customize each session to tell your individual story; whether it be a gorgeous location shoot, an elegant lifestyle session or an intimate studio session to celebrate your changing body. My goal is to make you feel beautiful and radiant, inside and out! Your session is a time to relax and have fun. I will pose you to make you look and feel your best. I recommend scheduling your maternity session between 29-35 weeks. This is the time you are showing but are not yet in the the last few uncomfortable weeks of your pregnancy.

DEFINING MATERNITY PHOTOGRAPHY

It is a specific type of photography that features the unique time in which you were expecting your little bundle of joy. The best time (best month) to do maternity photography in general, aim for at least two months before your due date (month #7 of pregnancy).

WHAT TO WEAR DURING A MATERNITY PHOTOSHOOT

As our client, you’ll have exclusive access to gorgeous maternity gowns from our couture collection. You’ll be able to choose from our studio’s exquisite, refined dresses that will help to bring out your full potential during your photoshoot. (Or, if you choose to do any tasteful nude poses, you won’t be wearing anything!)

THE AMOUNT OF TIME THAT A MATERNITY PHOTOSHOOT TAKES

Each session takes about two hours, give or take. This is because we don’t rush the photography process. We take our time and go at your pace as you change into different maternity gowns and try different poses with each gown. We’ll help you during every step of this process to ensure that you’re as comfortable as possible!

MATERNITY PHOTOGRPHY TIPS FOR POSING

Since each of our maternity sessions is customized, we’ll work with you to pose you in the ways that will make you look your best. We’ll discuss details with you beforehand during your design consultation.

MATERNITY PHOTOGRAPHY TIPS FOR BABY BUMP PHOTOS

For a nice, slimming look during your session, bend your leg close to the camera, push your shoulder closer to camera and down a bit, arch your back, and relax your fingers when you’re holding your belly. But no need to remember all of this, we will guide you every step of the way.

OTHER TIPS & PREP TO LOOK AND FEEL YOUR BEST FOR YOUR SESSION,

Skin - Avoid wearing anything that will create marks on your skin prior to the session, such as a bunched-elastic waistband, tight watch, etc.

Makeup - If you are doing your own makeup, it is best to put it on slightly heavier than you normally would. Consider bringing touchup items, such as lip color or gloss.

Makeup is not required by any means if you prefer a natural look; however I do not add makeup to your images while editing, and even a minimal amount, such as mascara and lip gloss, is preferred by most clients.

Nails - Clean finger and toenails, painted or unpainted, are ideal. If you opt for a color, it is best to choose something that doesn’t take away the focus from you.

Jewelry - You can bring anything you like, or nothing at all. If you do bring/wear jewelry, I recommend timeless pieces that won’t date your portrait, (such as an Apple Watch or similar.)

Undergarmets - Nude colored undergarments that are, or can be converted to strapless/seamless work best. High-cheeked or thong underwear are preferable if you have opted to or are considering including a bodysuit or sheer fabric drape as part of your wardrobe selection.

If you are bringing your own dresses/clothing - Please steam/iron them and keep them hanging to avoid wrinkling. There is a restroom and a large space within the studio to change.

Shoes - For the majority of my sessions, shoes are not included. Bare feet or cropped images that do not include lower legs/feet are most common. If you would like to bring shoes for some of your images, you are welcome to do so.

Spouse/Partner/Children - My client closet is growing, and at this time includes options for my maternity and newborn clients. Spouses, partners, and other children who will be included in portraits must bring their own coordinating clothing. Neutral colors with no or minimal patterns are recommended. Please choose options that are comfortable but well-fitting, clean, and wrinkle-free (as much as possible). If you are uncertain, please reach out and we can discuss options.

A private online gallery will display your final images, each personally and creatively edited to our style.

When payment for your print is made, please allow 2 to 3 weeks for delivery of print enlargements. Orders will not be placed until payment is received in full.

MINI SESSION V DELUXE SESSION

Maternity sessions are delicate, and we patiently take the time to style and perfect each pose. Our detailed approach allows us to capture those stunning moments that become the most beautiful, meaningful portraits.  Our Mini Session is a wonderful way to capture a smaller selection with 2 different background with 2 outfits. As an alternative, our Deluxe session allows plenty of time for several style 2-3 changes  with artistic our fabric or gown.
